Doctors who decorate India in the UN are beaten up by Indians and Ministers..

Doctors who decorate India in the UN are beaten up by Indians and Ministers..

Doctors save lives and jihadis kill … said Sushama Swaraj, External Affairs minister of India while taking on Pakistan during her UNGA speech. We produce doctors and you produce militants she said further.

Ironically, Pakistan protects its jihadis and militants as much as possible till they achieve their mission, and India refrains from protecting doctors while they do their work, every day and night, untiringly. Not only citizens of the country, but ministers in the government, have taken law in their own hands while bashing up doctors. Sad state of affairs.

Sushamaji, you remembered doctors during your UN speech. You will remember your doctors,  every time of your appointment with doctors who assisted you to survive renal failure, by doing renal transplant. Do you remember your own doctors, every time there is news in media; that a doctor was beaten by relatives of patient, or stabbed by patient or bashed up by minister in your own government?

I bet you wouldn’t.  Neither would hon’ble prime minster remember doctors who are working in pathetic infrastructure to treat poor patients in rural india while drafting national health policy. Finance minister will not remember doctors providing healthcare to 80% patients in the country while drafting budget, which has dismal 0.8% of GDP for healthcare. He would say that health is a state subject and center has no control. But would government ensure that states will take care of their doctors?

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, threatened resident doctors who went on strike because they were beaten up by patients to the extent that one doctor lost his eye. Health minister and medical education minister were not far behind in the race of showing their power in pressurizing young doctors who were asking only protection from goons. Was it not their right? Probably not. A sitting judge of Bombay High Court said, if you are afraid of getting beaten up, then resign from your duties. In order to avoid contempt of court, I prefer to leave the statement just at that… No comments My Lords.

You are talking about having IITs and IIMs and producing doctors and engineers. What happens in reality is products of IITs and IIMs are going out of India to make their fortune. Doctors have to sign bond of huge amounts for serving Indian citizens, and they cannot go out of country. Government says that this is because it spends huge amount on the education of doctors, hence the bond. It does not remember that what is shown as expenditure on education of doctors is actually expenditure on administration of healthcare through resident doctors. And does government not spend on IITs and IIMs? But yes, only doctors have to serve the nation.

And serve the nation by starting own practice, as there are no jobs in government. Take huge loans, create infrastructure, appoint staff and serve the patients. That service has to generate income to repay loans, and feed the doctor. Unfortunately, service comes under consumer protection act. It is said, to err is human; but not in case of doctors. They are neither human beings, nor are they gods. They are demons.  If they err, they pay heavy compensation. If patient dies for none of their fault, they get beaten up by relatives, and ministers in the government..!!

Doctors in this country have started sending their children for undergraduate education to Europe and America. They feel their children will be doctors, and will be safe. Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; very soon, ratio of doctors to patients will reduce from 1:1700 to 1:2000.
